Getting an l with accent is easy once you know your device. The main one, ł (the l with stroke), even has a Mac shortcut of its own. Here is the quickest route on each platform.
Windows, ALT code
Num Lock on. Hold Alt, type the number, release. Alt 0322 gives ł, capital Ł is Alt 0321. The full l with accent alt code list is in the table below.
Windows, Word (Alt+X)
Type the hex and press Alt + X: 0142 then Alt + X gives ł.
Windows, emoji & symbol panel

Typing L with accent on different language keyboards

Polish keyboard
On a Polish layout, ł is made with right Alt (AltGr) + l. It is a full letter of the Polish alphabet, pronounced like English “w”, as in Łódź, Wałęsa and mały (small). This surprises a lot of English speakers.

This is the one that trips people up. ł, the l with stroke, is a Polish letter, and despite being an l with a line through it it is pronounced like English “w”. You hear it in Łódź (the city), the name Wałęsa and mały (small). It is a full letter of the Polish alphabet, not a decorated L.
ľ, l with caron
ľ is Slovak, a softened, palatal L, as in ľúbiť (to love).
ĺ, l with acute
ĺ is also Slovak, marking a long syllabic L in words like stĺp (pillar).

Why does ł sound like “w”?
Historically the Polish ł was a “dark L”, but over time most speakers shifted it to a “w” sound. So Łódź sounds roughly like “wootch”, not “lodz”. It is still written as an l with a line through it.
