How to write a capital C in cursive

The cursive C capital is one smooth stroke. Start just below the top line, curve up and to the left, then swing all the way around counter-clockwise, down and around to the baseline, finishing with a small hook. Keep the pen on the paper the whole way; the capital C in cursive does not need a second stroke.

  1. Start below the top line and curve up and to the left.
  2. Sweep around counter-clockwise, down to the baseline, and finish with a small hook.

How to write a lowercase c in cursive

The lowercase c is a shorter version of the same shape. Begin just below the midline, curve up and left, then round down and back to close most of the way, ending with a small exit toward the next letter. Like the capital, the lowercase cursive C is a single flowing stroke.

  1. Start below the midline and curve up and to the left.
  2. Round down and back, then exit toward the next letter.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not close it fully: a c has an open mouth on the right. If you close the curve all the way, it turns into an o.

Start at the top: the cursive C begins near the top and moves left first, not from the bottom up.

Keep it round: a good c is a smooth curve, not a sharp corner. Let the stroke flow.

One motion: both the capital and lowercase c are drawn without lifting the pen.

Joining the cursive c

The lowercase c exits from the middle toward the next letter, so it links smoothly in words. Practise the cursive C inside real words: cat, cup, ice, class, circle. Notice how the exit stroke of the c flows into whatever letter comes next.

Frequently asked questions

How do you write a capital C in cursive?

Start just below the top line, curve up and to the left, then sweep around counter-clockwise down to the baseline and finish with a small hook. The capital C in cursive is one continuous stroke.

How do you write a lowercase c in cursive?

Begin below the midline, curve up and left, round down and back, then exit toward the next letter. It is the same shape as the capital, just smaller.

Is the cursive c one stroke or two?

One. Both the capital and lowercase cursive C are drawn in a single motion without lifting the pen.

Why does my cursive c look like an o?

You are closing the curve too far. Leave the right side open so the c has its distinctive open mouth, otherwise it reads as an o.
